An additional (extra-budgetary) urban case study was conduced in Nairobi Kenya in collaboration with ITDG East Africa and the University of Southampton (it is also closely linked to the DFID-funded ‘Water Vendors’ project led by WEDC). Focused in informal settlements in Nairobi it provides an interesting contrast to the rural case studies from India and Sri Lanka. It focuses in particular on the links between sanitation and urban livelihoods which remain under-researched and poorly understood.
